The diet I suggest is what most would call an Upgraded Paleo. If you simply say you are going paleo, it means you will be consuming primarily berries, animal meat, and twigs. Fun!

The problems with a paleo diet:
- Glycogen Depletion
- High-Toxin meats suck and will make you fat
- Non-Organic Fruits suck and will make you fat

- Organic fruits can still make you fat
- Alcohol will happen
- Your will power will not
- … the list goes on
I thought paleo was good? Why people lose weight on paleo is because they lower their carbohydrate intake and up their protein and fat intake. Generally speaking this makes them lose weight for two reasons.
Carbohydrates are special foods that if used at the wrong times will fuck your hormones and make your body store everything to fat. Even more sinister, many carbohydrate sources deemed “Healthy” like wheat bread, actually contain opiate forming compounds that will make you addicted to eating them and irrationally crave more. Ever wonder why you by a loaf of bread, have one piece of toast the first day, then two the next, and by the third day, you decide it is in your best interest to eat the entire loaf. Literally addictive. So if a person switched to paleo and kills the breads, they would probably want less in terms of overall calories. Upping protein and fat, improves lean muscle mass, which in-turn will boost resting metabolic rate. By eating fat and protein, you remain satiated for long periods of time. Eating protein is one of the few scientifically proven ways to lower body weight across all spectrums of overweight people. The government says 40g is a good daily amount of protein. The real answer is 1g of protein per pound of body weight is what you truly should strive for to make your body a happy camper.
The unknown reasons to many, why paleoistas lose weight quite quickly is actually do to toxin reduction. The sources of the majority of our body’s toxins come from grains. Grains have a large degree of unseen mold growing on them, especially wheat and corn. When we introduce toxins into our bodies, the body can handle it in three ways. It can excrete it out as waste or sweat it out through the skin. The third option is take the toxin and bind it with fat lipids. Toxins are stored in fat. When you have lots of toxins, your body makes more fat to keep you safe from them. This is also why when many people start losing weight, they get sick. It is from all their fat cells releasing toxins into their blood and overloading their immune system. Toxins = be fatter
A third reason is hormones. While still not optimized, a basic paleo diet should balance leptin, insulin, and raise testosterone to levels better than a diet consisting of grains.

Bear! <3
Brian, cool site, I like it a lot. I’m on a very similar path as you, and will be starting a biohacking site soon myself.
I’ve reached basically the same conclusions that you have above Re: paleo. I don’t know about you, but I was ultra low carb paleo for maybe 6 months, until allowing myself a sweet potato after workouts for another 2 months, until starting to quantify my temperature and stumbling upon this series of articles by Matt Stone at 180D Health. http://180degreehealth.com/tag/low-carb-diet-dangers Seems that prolonged low-carb promotes chronically elevated cortisol and hypothydroidism. Fun fun.
Now I’m trying to get my temp up from low 36′s (under tongue just after wakeup) with some serious Berkhan-style carb-backloading. It’s too soon to tell the effectiveness, but eating 400+ carbs from whole foods in an 8-hour window is physically demanding, at least after coming off of VLC.
I look forward to your future posts.
Cheers,
Winslow
LOL @ “alcohol will happen.” Sad truth
